🛬 Step 1: Land at Galápagos Ecologic Airport
You’ve arrived! Baltra is a small island, home to Galápagos' eco-friendly airport and... lots of Land Iguanas 🦎. Keep an eye out through the window as you begin your journey!
🚌 Step 2: Take the LOBITO bus – $5 per person
Outside the terminal, board the LOBITO shuttle bus heading to the Itabaca Channel. The ride lasts about 10 minutes and offers basic island facts along the way. You’ll enjoy views of the arid landscape—and maybe catch glimpses of Land Iguanas sunbathing!
- They take care of your luggage, placing it in a separate compartment and transferring it to the barge for you.
- Payment: Cash or credit card accepted
🚤 Step 3: Cross the Itabaca Channel by Barge – $1 per person
Hop on the barcaza (ferry barge) for a quick 5-minute ride to Santa Cruz Island. It’s a scenic and breezy ride. Be aware 💸 Cash only
🏝️ Step 4: Travel to Puerto Ayora
Once on Santa Cruz, you're 42 km away from Puerto Ayora. Choose your next ride:
Option 1: Taxi – $25 total
The white pickup truck taxis are fast, reliable, and drop you off directly at your hotel or Airbnb. ⏱️ ~40–50 minutes
Why choose a taxi:
- Fastest option
- Great if you're traveling in a group
- Often, travelers team up on the spot to split the fare (just ask around!)
Enhance your journey down! For ~$60, ask your driver to include a visit to a highland ranch and the stunning Los Gemelos twin craters.
Option 2: Bus – $5 per person
The budget-friendly choice. Buses depart from the ferry dock and head to the Terminal Terrestre in Puerto Ayora. ⏱️ ~50–60 minutes
Important: The bus drops you at the terminal—not your accommodation. From there, you’ll need a taxi to your final destination (add $1.50).
